A couple of work in progress shot from a recent trip to Dartmoor. Camping in the grounds of The Plume of Feathers Inn at Princetown in -6 was an experience. Thankfully the day time temperatures were more photography friendly. I decided on this trip to try and experiment and expand on my usual style.

Promising skies and the knowledge that the sun was due to set in just the right spot prompted a visit to Cape Cornwall. I thought I would share a few of work in progress shots from the trip.

One of my first successes with a recently purchased hi-tech 10 stop neutral density filter. Correcting for the rather extreme magenta colour cast resulted in a pleasing blue green hue to the image.

Five years ago Canon launched the 350D or Digital Rebel XT. This also happened to be my first digital SLR camera and lead to my passion in photography taking on new heights. Today on dpreview.com I noticed that Canon have recently announced the 550D / Rebel T2i. The thing that struck me about this camera is its 18 megapixel sensor, the 350D having only 8 megapixels of course. To put it another way Canon’s entry level DSLRs have increased resolution by and average of two million pixels per year every year for the last five years!

If this madness continues in another five years the 850D or whatever it will be called will have 28 million pixels, all being resolved onto a sensor the size of a postage stamp through a sub-standard kit lens. So fellow photographers, did you think the megapixel war was over? I would say from this that it is just warming up!
Will make a cracking lightweight backup for the 5D mk2 though

After installing wordpress countless times and then never actually writing anything I have finally decided it is time for me to have an active blog!
Obviously this will be photography related, and like all photographer blogs be used for shameless self promotion. I do however hope to share a number of tips, tutorials and reviews which I hope someone starting out in landscape photography might find interesting.

Shot back in mid 2007 at Porthloe Cove Cornwall using the first digital SLR that I owned, a Canon 350D. Printed at 18″x12″ I am very pleased with the output. It just proves you do not need massive resolution to get a great print. Now why did I recently upgrade to the 21 mega-pixel Canon 5D MK2 from the original 5D?
I hope the new owner gets many years enjoyment out of the print.
